DANIELA

A ballet in 2 acts

SYNOPSIS

ACT I

Prince Alberto is painting a portrait of a beautiful young lady, Daniela. A cheerful company of youngsters breaks into the hall. The Prince’s beloved nephew Frederico enters with them. The youngsters are having fun.
Frederico’s friend Bernardo, having seen a draped old mirror, becomes interested and tries to have a closer look at it. The Prince angrily turns the young folks away.

Frederico is intrigued by his Uncle’s behavior and now wants to learn the secret of the enchanted mirror. The Prince has to reveal him the truth.
As soon as he is alone, Frederico decides to pass through the mirror.

ACT II

In spite of the Prince’s prohibition, Frederico passes through the enchanted mirror three times. But every time he feels as disappointed as Prince Alberto used to be.
In search of happiness Frederico visits an enchanted “Stone Garden” and a fantastic “Golden Castle” and even enters the Underworld. Understanding that his journeys to the Otherworld bring him no success, Frederico gives up on his quest for love and fulfillment.
Then Daniela comes to the Prince’s house again. Seeing the girl, Frederico thinks she is merely a vision, because she looks like the beautiful young ladies he met during his journeys to the Otherworld. Frederico becomes frightened. He wants to drive Daniela away, but soon understands that she is the girl of his dreams. While he was looking for love in some distant lands, happiness was near at hand.
